Just DAYS to go....

There was a time when I thought this would NEVER get here....Elder Guthrie will arrive in RDU at 5:40pm on Monday, March 28th! As I write this, that is close to just FIVE DAYS FROM NOW. We are head over heels in yellow bows around here.
Anyone who can be at the airport PLEASE come. I know it is a long way to travel. We were hoping for New Bern just because more of you could be there to greet him as his feet touch NC soil for the first time in over 2 years. As for me...I'd go to Timbuktu.
From Jordy's email this week, he is busy too. Enjoy the pictures, for the end of this blog is near.

Here's his email.

here are some fotos of the week, i had to go to leon on thursday to sign some things, take pics and stuff, ill be going again this thursday, i dont know if ill just be staying there for the rest ofthe time, probably so, im gonna send a package home before leaving, and ive already almost got everything packed, bit nervous about the whole change country ordeal, but thats how the cookie crumbles i guess. enjoy the pics. Couldnt write yesterday because we ran out of time and all, washing clothes, going to the center to buy a big mexican hat and a zarape!!!! its pretty big the hat, im gonna try and sent pics home, of the big hat, sombrero, its pretty big also a convert should be receiving the preisthood next week, that would be coool, keep up the good work, whats dads number again, and see you next week

21 Days to Go!

This is such an exciting time for Elder Guthrie all who love him. Last night we got a phone call from Mexico! Turns out it was Elder Roberts from Jordy's generation. He's the one that looks like Obama. He called to tell us Elder Guthrie's flight plans.(He also said that Elder Guthrie is a really good missionary.)

Jordy will leave Mexico early on the morning of March 28th and following a 4 hour layover in Texas will arrive in Raleigh at 5:40pm. Anyone who wants to be at the airport is welcomed. The next day he will see the Stake Pres and be released.
Today on the Missionary Moms website I frequent a mother titled her entry "Leon Questions" so you know I clicked on it right away. Upon reading it, I learned that her son and 9 other missionaries, currently in the MTC, got their VISAs approved and will be leaving for Leon in THREE WEEKS. It is really weird to think that just a little while ago I was that mother. Where did the 2 years go?
Enjoy the pictures. He and his companion look like they get along really well.

Four Weeks

I kind of think his companion looks like my cousin, Mike Hancock. (Especially in the picture of the 2 of them walking down the street.)
Not much to say....the title says it all. We are all getting mighty excited around here, and I think someone is in Mexico too. When asked what he wanted for our family's 'Christmas in March' his number one wish was

about a week in his bedroom with a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door. Done.

Lots of pictures this week. Enjoy. I know I did.

Five Weeks......

Time is S-L-O-W-L-Y but surely ticking by: Only 5 more weeks before Elder Guthrie gets his last mission transfer....and this one is to Harkers Island!
He spent today playing a tourist, returning to the city of San Miguel de Allende. It must be a pretty nice place, because according to Jordy it is "what Mexico should be like". He deserves a little R&R, so maybe he got a few hours of pure fun today. I can't wait for the stories he'll tell!

Six weeks, and COUNTING!!!!

Here are some pics from the week, I've got a new companion, still in the same area here in Celaya, Pinos. My new companion is from PERU, cool eh? He has about 6 months in the mission (poor little thing), and by the way, IT'S MY LAST CHANGE IN THE MISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FINALLY We Can Say It.......

Elder Guthrie will be home NEXT MONTH!! Yes, it is just the 2nd of February, and he will likely not be leaving Mexico until around the 28th, so a full two months, but still it is NEXT MONTH!
Not a lot of exciting things going on in Celaya lately. There were a couple of slow weeks but this Monday he reported a baptism last week and one coming up this week. He seems to really like the ward he is in now and the bishop seems really nice to the missionaries. Mondays are the only days they don't eat with members and the bishop has given them money to go out to eat several times.
We are really getting excited about Jordan's return. Most of you know we have decided NOT to travel to Mexico and fly back with Elder Guthrie. It's kind of a long story, but it was going to cost a boat-load of money and when we really talked to Jordy about it he was more than fine with us just meeting him at the airport. (of course, by "talk" I mean "chat") Our wonderful bishop, Bishop Nelson, upon hearing the news shared with us that he was actually happy with our decision. Being an RM (Returned Missionary) he said being able to actually travel HOME with your generation was a very special time in a missionary's life. Another definition here, in missionary lingo "generation" refers to all the missionaries in one's group, from DAY ONE they have been together. Jordy's generation consists of about 16 missionaries total. I think I am right with that number, but I will verify with Elder Guthrie.
So, enough of me rambling on. Now on to the good part....PICTURES!!!!!!
